Wow. What a week of recruiting this has been so far. Charlie Weis has landed three outstanding players in Cierre Wood, Tyler Stockton, and most recently, Theo Riddick. Each one of these athletes is ranked in the Rivals.com Top 250 of 2009 and were given at least four stars. The Irish now have four commitments early on in the recruiting process; three offensive and one defensive.
Cierre Wood is without a doubt the most impressive of the commits. This 6′0″, 192 pound running back out of California is considered the third best player in the country according to Rivals.com. They ranked him number three in the entire 2009 class as well as the top running back of his class. Both Rivals.com and Scout.com awarded him five stars and his commitment is nearly as big as Jimmy Clausen’s two years ago. I will try to post some YouTube videos of him later on, he is a stud.
Tyler Stockton is a big pick up for Notre Dame because of his power. He’s not the biggest defensive tackle at all but he has the explosiveness to succeed. Tyler is a 6′1″, 290 pound lineman who may remind people of Trevor Laws according to Mike Frank. His hands and quickness are the key attributes that make him an outstanding commit for Charlie Weis and the Irish defense.
Theo Riddick is the latest Irish commit after making his announcement last night. He is he second and most likely the only other running back that will be taken in the 2009 class. Theo is a little on the short side at 5′10″ but makes up for it with his strength and power. He currently weighs in at around 185 pounds and was given four stars from Rivals.com.

Notre Dame received it’s first football commitment of the 2009 class recently. Jake Golic is following the footsteps of his family and will attend the University of Notre Dame like his father Mike, Uncle Bob, and brother Mike Golic Jr. who is going to be a freshman this year. Jake is a tight end out of West Hartford, Connecticut and immediately committed to the Irish once he received his offer. I don’t think anyone is surprised by this, but it’s a decent pick up for Charlie Weis considering the trouble at tight end currently. The Fighting Irish have talent at the position but a lack of depth due to suspensions and such. Jake Golic is of decent size, similar to Mike Ragone but will have to bulk up a little bit more before he comes to South Bend. He is currently 6′4″, and around 215 pounds. You can catch a video of Jake Golic on Rivals.com here:

It’s been awhile since we’ve had another addition to the class of 2008. Kapron Lewis-Moore, who had commmitted to Texas A&M, has changed his mind and will join the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Kapron is a 6′4″, 225 pound defensive end from Weatherford, Texas. He is a four star player on Rivals.com and a three on Scout.com and is a great pickup for Charlie Weis. It is said that he wanted to keep his decision quiet, but Tom Lemmings of the Sun Times made it public with his article yesterday.
With signing day in less than two days, we won’t have to wait long to find out if this is true or not. Let’s all hope it is because Kapron Lewis-Moore is an outstanding player and a much needed replacement for the loss of defensive lineman Omar Hunter. As always, Go Irish!

Notre Dame added another wide receiver to the class with the commitment of Deion Walker. The six-foot-four receiver gave the Irish the number one class again after falling behind Georgia for a very, very short time.

Defensive tackle, Omar Hunter, from Budford, Georgia has chosen to attend a school closer to home and no longer wishes to go to the University of Notre Dame. He is now considering three schools; USC, Florida, and Auburn. I anticipate that he will decide to attend Florida, considering the distance USC is from his home, although, Auburn is still a possibility. Hunter is a key loss to the number one Irish recruiting class, but it should stay there as long as all other commits stick with Notre Dame. With the All American game coming up on the 5th, we can hope for some other players to fill in for this loss.

Trevor Robinson of Nebraska committed to the University of Notre Dame on Thursday night. The 6′6″ Offensive Guard had been committed to Nebraska but changed his mind and went with Charlie Weis and the Irish. Notre Dame now has 22 Commits from the 2008 class, and still looking for a couple more.

After visiting Notre Dame last weekend to see the Irish get blown out by USC, running back Jonas Gray has committed to the Irish. Gray had previously committed to Nebraska, but changed his decision after seeing the Notre Dame campus. This makes 21 players thus far in the 2008 class, with only a few spots left.

Notre Dame again added another talented linebacker recently. Steven Filer of Chicago verbally committed to the Irish after an unofficial visit to the school. The 6′3″, 220 pound inside linebacker is another great addition to this years spectacular defensive recruiting.
