Navy Streak Ends
5th Nov 2007
Navy 46
Notre Dame 44
The game started off well, with Robert Hughes scoring, a touching moment for everyone. Both offenses dominated throughout the game. Notre Dame could not stop Navy’s running attack the entire game. Navy couldn’t stop Notre Dame’s offense most of the game. Sharpley played fine, but did nothing too spectacular. James Aldridge had a good game rushing for 125 yards on 32 carries. Freshman receiver Duval Kamara had a big day, catching two touchdown passes although only gaining 44 yards throughout the game. Armando Allen had a couple big kick off returns and almost 100 yards rushing (91 yards on 16 carries). While Zbikowski almost broke free on a punt return. Travis Thomas had three short runs for touchdowns, but couldn’t make it in for the game losing two point conversion.
Notre Dame had the opportunity to win the game with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter with a field goal. Charlie Weis elected not to attempt the field goal, but to go for it on fourth down. It was the wrong decision. Evan Sharpley gets sacked and the game goes into overtime. Sure the Irish have had trouble kicking the ball all year, but why, why can’t you give Walker a chance to win the game with something in his range? I won’t argue the call to run it with Travis Thomas for the two point conversion because he had finished off three similar runs earlier in the game.
As the game headed into overtime, I knew Notre Dame was in trouble. Navy scored a touchdown on the first play of the third and final overtime, and than converted the two point conversion. Notre Dame has the chance to tie the game but cannot. The rest is history.
Navy snaps the 43 game losing streak to Notre Dame and make this season that much more crazy. The Irish move to 1-8 and face a tough Air Force team at home next week.
