Crum will return for fifth year

26th Oct 2007

Maurice Crum Sr. has told the newspaper “The Observer” that his son, senior captain, Maurice Crum Jr. will return for a fifth year at Notre Dame next season. Crum plays linebacker and is one of seven seniors eligible for a fifth season next year. His return will bring a lot of experience back to the young Irish team, and his leadership will play an even bigger role. This is great news for the University and Charlie Weis.

New Layout

25th Oct 2007

Obviously, there is a new website layout. I felt that the previous site design was too dull and unattractive so I created this new one. Feel free to leave any comments and/or suggestions.

Also, I am currently looking to trade links with other Notre Dame websites/blogs. I will put your link in my blogroll in the sidebar, right under “ND Links”. Feel free to email me at Kevin@oldnotredame.com if you are interested.

Quick addition, Jonas Gray

23rd Oct 2007

After visiting Notre Dame last weekend to see the Irish get blown out by USC, running back Jonas Gray has committed to the Irish. Gray had previously committed to Nebraska, but changed his decision after seeing the Notre Dame campus. This makes 21 players thus far in the 2008 class, with only a few spots left.

ND Lose’s again, Terrible

21st Oct 2007

USC 38
Notre Dame 0

Absolutely terrible. The Irish played well up until the messed up punt return. Everything went downhill from there. Sharpley didn’t do anything and Clausen should start if he is healthy next week. Evan couldn’t do anything all game and held the ball too long a couple times. Armando Allen showed some sparks throughout the game and needs to start getting more carries. The Irish produced 165 yards on offense the entire game. Terrible. Embarrassing.

ND-USC Preview

19th Oct 2007

nd-usc.jpg

Notre Dame is taking on #14/13/9 USC tomorrow at 3:30 in South Bend, Indiana. USC is 5-1 and the Irish are only 1-6. Here are some stat comparison between the two rivals.

Notre Dame - 225.6 ypg - 13.3 ppg - 193.4 pypg - 32.1 rypg
USC - 441.5 ypg - 34.0 ppg - 243.3 pypg - 198.2 rypg

While Charlie Weis announced Sharpley the starter earlier this week, Pete Carroll will not tell the media. John David Booty broke his middle finger and sat out last week but could be healthy enough to play this weekend. Mark Sanchez, a sophmore quarterback got the call last week against Arizona and likely will be the starter again, against the Irish. EDIT: Mark Sanchez will Start. Notre Dame has listed Travis Thomas as the number one running back this week because of James Aldridge’s injury. Expect him to get more carries than usual, along with freshmen Armando Allen and Robert Hughes.

Notre Dame has had trouble running the ball all year and this week just makes it harder. I expect the Irish to pass most of the game because of USC’s great running defense. Sharpley gets his first career start and will have to play very well to keep his spot, and prevent Clausen from getting in to the game. If Evan struggles, don’t be surprised if Jimmy replaces him right away.

Charlie Weis and the Irish will have to play their best game of the season offensively, defensively, and on special teams in order to stay in the game. Even with one loss, Southern Cal is still one of the top teams in the nation. Go Irish!

Sharpley to start against USC

16th Oct 2007

313513.jpg

Charlie Weis spoke earlier today and has declared Evan Sharpley the starter this week against USC at home. This will be his first career start after DJ and Clausen started the first seven games. Clausen lost the spot after throwing two interceptions last week and having trouble moving the offense again. Clausen’s time will come again, but how soon? Sharpley needs to perform very well to secure his spot as the starter.

Irish Lose to BC

16th Oct 2007

Boston College 27
Notre Dame 14

The game was close and could’ve been closer if the Irish did not get called for holding on a play that resulted in a touchdown. With the five or so minutes left, the Irish could’ve comeback to win. Sharpley played well in the second half and might have won himself a starting position. Charlie will be making his decision later on today. Notre Dame moves to 1-6 on the year with USC up next.
